[applause] >> thank you, thank you very much. and welcome to huckabee from the fox news studios in new york city. just days after the uprising at the egyptian embassy and the trerrorist attack in benghazi, four americans, including an ambassador was murdered i looked you in the eye and said, your government lied to you. the reaction from the left was swift and brutal. accusing me of playing loose with the facts. and of politicizing a tragedy. well, i said then and i continue to say, our government has lied to us and has engaged in a systematic and deliberate coverup. while i do have friends in the intelligence community and

military, it wasn't those relationships that gave that thought to me. that just confirmed what was oeb -- obvious to everyone, except the obama administration, which continued to embarrass itself by trotting out people to make the recollection assertion that these attacks were a spontaneous reaction to a 30 minute video about muhammad. and congress hearings with people under oath, our embassy begged for embassy and over 200 security issues. the ambassador himself requested more security. and those pleas were ignored. we have a clearer picture of what happened, but we still don't know why. was there such a dogged determinenation to prove that al-qaeda and the taliban was no longer a threat, that we would risk the security of our
5:03 pm
own people with fingers crossed hoping that nothing would happen? well, one person who clearly understands the ongoing threat is laura logan, the courageous cbs veteran reporter savagely attacked by a group of thugs during the so-called arab spring uprising. and speaking this week in chicago, she had this to say. >> i knew that we were being lied to and i knew that the american people were being manipulated. and when it comes to issues that i care about, issues of national security, i don't think that politics should deck tate the national security policy and i don't know a journalist that likes being lied to. >> she said that the new crop are moderate, kinder, gentler, that kind of taliban, she said is nonsense, pushed by taliban apologists and warned our leaders are being arrogant not listening to what our enemies

say, but in making up their own script. and she hopes that measured america will the deaths of those in libya, and not attacked on our own soil, that's the only message they understand. her comments are not political, they're based on observation and her personal experience. the reason that this is a violent course is that if our government will lie to us about benghazi, they'll lie to us about neg and everything. it's a political consequences from this administration are more important than the personal consequences to you and your family, then we have to believe that this election is not j us a choice democrats and republicans, it's between an america that's owned for the people and served by the politicians, or one that is owned by the government to deserve to be served by the people.
5:05 pm
that's the choice. [applause] this week, state department officials in libya gave astonishing testimony before congress that they needed more security, asked the state department for it, and were denied. this is eric nordstrom about a phone call that he had with the regional director. >> i asked for 12 agents. his response was, you're asking for the sun, moon and the stars. and my response toham is jim, i said, jim, you know what makes it most frustrating about this assignment, not the hardships, not the gunfire, not the athletes, it's dealing and fighting against the people, programs, and personnel who are supposed to be supporting me and i added it by saying for me the taliban is on the inside of the building. >> mike: amazing words. well, pennsylvania congressman and former federal prosecutor patrick meehan is on the oversight committee and one who was asking questions at

that hearing. congressman, thanks for being with us today. >> thank you, governor. >> mike: when you were in those hearings, i know you were there as a congressman, but you've had years of distinguished service record as a federal prosecutor. you're used to interrogating people. what is your sense how high up this information chain goes. >> it goes very high, to the highest levels of the state department. what you have is an unusual circumstance where you have strong misrepresentations on both sides of an incident. on the front end, whether or not they were aware, it made justice about the entire situation and in lib ga, and benghazi in particular. there was clear and uncontroverted testimony this were going up and they were
5:07 pm
told to stifle them. don't request more security because you're not going to get it. on the back end shall the gross misrepresentations in the aftermath, what what is happening and as people know, it was nerve shated it w-- it was due to a video. we have gross misrepresentations on both ends, what concerns me is the lack of accountability here, what you're beginning to see as finger pointing, it's somebody else's responsibility and the failure for those in washington to listen to those on the ground who really know what's going on and be responsive to their clues instead of telling them what's going on from washington. it's kind of a paradigm for a lot of what seems going on in our government today. >> mike: the vice-president says he nor the president knew anything about a report indicating there was a request for more security.
5:08 pm
some of us find that hard to believe. we know they didn't attend the is that others , but the downstream, primarily in the intelligence community, including secretary of state hillary clinton did know that she's responsible for not passing it on. my question is, do you plan to bring the secretary of state before the committee and put her under oath and ask her what does she know and when did she know it? >> well, there's certainly a clear interest in getting to that point. what you're seeing is the intelligence community now being laid out to dry as if somehow they are the ones responsible. when in fact, there was clear information that would have had a pre prudent person second guess whether we would rely on whether this was driven by a video. so the idea that they could still be five days later having a u.n. ambassador out on the national tv programs claiming the video was a
5:09 pm
motivating factor when among before that there was strong indications and the conclusion that you heard the km that day from a chief within 24 hours, it was his conclusion, a dominated issue. and who is talking to the state department and the real lack of accountability. as if somehow you can have set up an ivory tower and have no responsibility for what's going on. and a misrepresentation i consider to be a gross misrepresentation, by the vice-president that they didn't know anything about requests, again, if you cheese your ears, how you're not accountable. i don't buy it. >> mike: there are consulates all over the world, embassies all over the world and i understand, thousands, literally of reports that might bubble up. after the event, it seems
5:10 pm
inconceivable that the president of the united states was unaware of the fact that we're obvious to the intelligence community. how could he have not known and if he didn't know, who kept that information from him? >> governor, that's the beauty of inquiry, you ran a government and i understand and i think particularly where there's notice and now you should be getting real time reports from the -- that's accurate and actual information. this is the same paradigm we're seeing in fast and furious where the response is, well, we didn't know anything about it. and you can't be able to be held unaccountable because you choose not to listen to those who have information to bring to you. and i'm being kind when i say choose not. i think there's a duty of responsibility when something's that significant that has to be one of the most important things the federal government was responding to at that moment and for them to say that they aren't aware of

he's here. please welcome former house speaker newt gingrich. [applause] >> i want to get to the heart of this investigation that's going on in congress. how plausible is it that the president of the united states was unaware of requests or security in one of the hottest places on our diplomatic map, libya? >> well, let me say, first of all, that i think it's very plausible that this president didn't know anything before the attack because he had been skipping 60% of the briefings, so it strikes me as very, very likely that obama didn't have a clue, and that biden didn't have a clue. it's inconceivable in 48 hours that they didn't know what was going on. i want to start there. clearly they had sent a signal, the state department is the one to put in four stations volts and bought
5:16 pm
volts to go to europe and found money to send marines to islands in the caribbean and guarding, i assume, against drunk vacationers on friday night, but couldn't find any money for benghazi, and i think that's because obama had this fantasy, having killed bin laden, he could claim they had defeated al-qaeda and he didn't want to deal with and he's consciously going to be honest about the level of the threat. i thought the line that the cbs correspondent had earlier, a tremendously powerful opening to the show and i thought that segment you did with her, and then with the congressman meehan, an amazing capture of where we are. and she said something i'd never heard before that's pretty accurate and repeated by the state department official who testified, and that is that when he said the taliban in his mind is inside the government, and i think that she used the phrase taliban apologists.
5:17 pm
i think that administration is dedicated to a belief that islam can never be wrong and it's always the with he is that did something bad and therefore, it's always a surprise to them when something bad happens. meanwhile, in the real world, there are radicals who hate us, get up every morning trying to figure out how to kill us. there was a single thing on the 10th of september, and leaving al-qaeda a key libyan leader why don't you get even on the 11th. we know that, they picked it up. nothing was said about it. the ambassador we learned from his diaries was worried about death threats and asking for security. we know now on the record that they were asking for security. and bothers me, i don't want to use a watergate, i don't want to talk about benghazi-gate and trivialize it. four americans were killed. imagine the terrors of the five hours, a five hour
5:18 pm
attack. if we'd been prepared with rapid reaction forces the ambassador would be alive today. if we'd been prepared by sending in marines beforehand the ambassador would be alive today. this is much worse than watergate. nobody died at watergate and i think that it's inconceivable that the vice-president of the united states would go on the national debate and willfully and deliberately lie to the american people, and that's what he did. there's no excuse, it's 32 days later, there's no excuse and joe biden went out of his way to lie to the american people and i think it's dishonorable and the capacity of self-government when your leading officials lie to you. >> mike: mr. speaker, the other side says we're trying to politicize this, if it weren't an election year that we wouldn't be as interested with it. i personally take umbrage to it. and if this were the bush

administration and they claim that they had no idea even after the event that this was a terrorist attack and it took them weeks to come to that conclusion when everybody else on the globe seemed to know it, i'd like to believe with all my heart that i'd be just as outraged. i think this election though is going to be incredibly important moment to determine do we want our government to continue to engage in this type of activity where they just won't level with us? >> look, i would say to our liberal apologists, tell it to the families of the four people who were killed. explain to them why it's okay to lie about the death of their loved ones. i think it's -- told you how sec the system has gotten, that anything to protect obama is okay, no matter how dishonorable and you saw it again with the vice-president the other night when he lied about the war on religion and the attack on catholic hospitals and things where he was just totally false in what he was saying. but it's an embarrassment to

[applause]. >> it does. i'm so happy not to be wearing a scarf. i can never get the wig to stop itching. as short as it is, i'm happy. i've been fortunate and unfortunate in the last, really, in the last two years i've done most of my chemo a and, they haven't worked so worked for a short time and then won't work and i have to go to another one on another one and you get your hopes up and you get slammed back and you have to say okay, i'll try the next one. so, right now, they're doing something they've done, i hadn't heard about before, but they're going to put me on a male hormone, which is seemed odd, but i guess that this hormone -- my breast cancer is estrogen positive. estrogen causes my breast cancer to grow. so your body, you need to take
5:52 pm
the ovaries out, and they still have estrogen that seeps thousand so i think that this hormone is supposed to stop that from happening. >> mike: it's a rollercoaster for your body and your soul and you've been on a different rollercoaster with funding for the foundation and that is because all of the changes that helped policy have really made an impact, and i don't think that most people understand, but explain what's happened with the funding stream to foundations like yours. >> well, those who depend on individuals who aren't big enough. like your susan komen's, they get all of their money from corporate. if you're a small foundation like mine, they-- giving, the individual giving is down 15% since 2009. >> mike: due to the economy or-- >> yeah, of course, absolutely, it is the economy and they're saying it's not
5:53 pm
going to recover. and that will be the last to recover and happen around 2016 and 2020. so you have to, if you want to survive, come up with other ways to think of making money. and-- >> now, you want to tell me about the bracelets. we've got you here for a reason. >> they're here for a reason and stella and dot is a remarkable company ju, and started the condition and i don't know if the audience knows, it's kind of the tupperware of jewelry. she created this so that women could sell out of their homes and stay home with their kids. they came to us, and hugely successful and came to us, we want you to do a bracelet and have you name it and make other items for the month of october that you'll get the proceeds for and i'm wearing one. this one is so beautiful, i think. and what i love most about it is that it's not pink.
5:54 pm
i've had it up to here with pink. [laughte [laughter] >> sorry. >> mike: off we go. >> but this is rose gold and they put it, made it with a feather and they asked me to name it and i named it the hope bracelet because as i growing up. my mom-- your mom always has the catch phrases, where there's life there's hope. >> mike: when people purchase these, proceeds go to help the foundation, to help cancer research. >> exactly. >> mike: so there will be different types of chemotherapy that won't make people sick. >> no, not even that. this is gold, this is what's happening. and it's going to be out in a year and a half and my foundation has put a lot of money into this and made it happen. and when i got cancer, what i was -- what i've been working for is a drug that will replace chemo, that will work and be nontoxic, so, that
5:55 pm
would be the goal. and it would be a drug that you could live with and would be able to manage your cancer and you wouldn't die from it. so, this mean that we put in at ucla, they came up with a drug like that. one through phase one trial and went through phase two trial and gang busters doing great and working for all of these women. not allowed to tell the name of the pharmaceutical company, but they took our one million and turned it into a commitment of 190 million. >> mike: wow. [applause] maureen, i hope that-- and go on the website and find the screen to become part of the effort. because there's so many people. every family has been touched. every. >> you're right, there has been. >> there's no exceptions. if there's ways to help with the research to find cures and better ways to help people through the process, it would be a can you feel gift to millions of americans.
5:56 pm
thank you. >> thank you, governor. >> mike: always, your courage is amazing. thank you.
